Mexican consular assistance and protection abroad in response to the COVID-19 crisis: the case in Spain

This article analyses the actions carried out by the Government of Mexico to assist the repatriation of Mexican nationals in Spain affected by the COVID-19 crisis. It is a descriptive research that seeks to open the discussion and be a possible reference for data and information research in the field of consular diplomacy. The text shows the challenges and a lack of institutional capacities and mechanisms to foresee and manage the COVID-19 as a worldwide threat. The case reviewed allows to show some trends for the design and implementation of new programs and tools to face future challenges of this dimension.
